Dovecotes and little treasures discovery tour

Along the small roads of the Hauts Tolosans, you will discover many dovecotes, some very simple, others more elaborate. They are located either in the heart of the villages or isolated in the fields and they bear witness to the great importance of pigeon breeding in the past. The purpose of this breeding was to collect the pigeon droppings, which are an excellent fertilizer. Pigeon breeding also provided a fine meat appreciated by gourmets. Dovecotes were also designed to show the wealth and social position of their owners. Great care was therefore taken in the construction of the dovecotes which today represent the heritage of our region. 

There are many little treasures along this route: to the west, magnificent viewpoints along the winding roads and undulating landscape punctuated by picturesque villages with tiled roofs. To the east and south, fertile valleys along the Garonne and Save rivers. And everywhere beautiful brick castles, market halls and mills, half-timbered or earth and pebble houses.
